Prof. Dr. Lutgart Van den Berghe
Vlerick Leuven Gent Management School, Belgium
Lutgart
Van den Berghe is Doctor in Economics, Ghent University, Belgium.
She is an executive director of Vlerick Leuven Gent Management
School and Chairman of the Competence Centre “Entrepreneurship,
Governance and Strategy”. She is part-time professor at Ghent
University (domain of management of insurance companies & financial
conglomerates, and corporate governance). She serves as a
non-executive director in a number of listed and non-listed
multinational companies. She has been a visiting or part-time
professor at the universities of Rotterdam (Netherlands), Antwerp (Belgium),
Lille (France), Bocconi (Italy), Vienna (Austria) and Georgia State
University (US). Her research interests focus on corporate
governance, institutional investors and financial conglomerates.

Kurt Verweire

Kurt
Verweire obtained his PhD in 1999 on the topic of Performance consequences of
financial conglomeration with an empirical analysis in Belgium and the Netherlands
at the Erasmus University in Rotterdam, the Netherlands. Since 1992, he is working at
Vlerick Leuven Gent Management School on strategic and marketing issues in the financial
services industry. He is a strategy professor at Vlerick Leuven Gent Management School.
His research interests include performance management, competitive
strategy, corporate strategy, and strategy implementation. Kurt Verweire is also Programme Director of the MBA-FSI. |
Prof. Dr.
Marc Buelens

Marc Buelens is Doctor in Industrial Psychology, Ghent
University, Belgium. First, he worked as a scientific staff member at Ghent University,
then he worked for the Artois breweries. He has been the Managing Director of Vlerick
Leuven Gent Management School. At present, he is partner of Vlerick Leuven Gent Management
School.
He has taught at the
universities of Leuven and Antwerp (Belgium), Moscow (Russia), and Bandung (Indonesia) and
now teaches General Management and Organisation at Ghent University and Vlerick. His
fields of interest are executive decision making, organisational behaviour and
negotiation.

Prof. Dr. André Thibeault

André
Thibeault received his PhD in Business Administration at the
University of Western Ontario (Canada) in 1984. Presently, he is a
professor of finance at the Vlerick Leuven Gent Management School in
Belgium. He combines several additional academic and consultant
positions in Europe, in Canada and in China, including teaching &
development assignments with the Institute of Canadian Bankers.
The scientific publications of André Thibeault cover the fields of
corporate finance, international capital markets and the management
of financial institutions. Furthermore, he focuses on securitisation,
credit risk management and the development of simulations in the
field of insurance and financial conglomerates. |
Prof. Dr. Herman Van den Broeck

Herman
Van den Broeck is Doctor in Pedagogical Sciences, Ghent University,
Belgium. He is partner of and professor at Vlerick Leuven Gent
Management School, and Chairman of the Competence Centre “People and
Organisation”. He holds the Fortis Chair “Emotional Intelligence”. He is
professor at the Faculty of Economics and Business Administration of
Ghent University. He teaches “Educational Interaction and Communication”
at the Teacher Training Department of Ghent University. His main
interests and fields of research focus on social skills, organisational
behaviour, emotional intelligence and teamwork.

Prof. Dr.
Walter Ackermann

Walter
Ackermann obtained his PhD with a thesis on "Social Security and Industrial
Society-Tendencies and Consequences". From 1982 onwards, he became Director of the
European Centre for Insurance Education and Training. He is Managing Director of the
Institute of Insurance Economics (I.VW) at the University of St. Gallen. In 1995 he was
appointed professor of business management and social policy at the University of St.
Gallen. Walter Ackermann is the author of several publications dealing with social and
private insurance. His personal research fields are management and human resources
development in insurance, risk management and strategic leadership of insurance companies
and economic and social aspects of the modern welfare state. |

Beat Bernet

Beat
Bernet is a full-time professor of business management with special consideration of
banking at the University of St. Gallen, and Director of the Swiss Institute of Banking
and Finance, St. Gallen. He is active as a member on various boards of directors, and is a
consultant to banks, financial organisations and governmental agencies in several
countries. He is the founder and president of Bernet & Partner AG,
Unternehmensberatung für Banken, Switzerland. His main research interests are structural
changes in banking, bank-related competition strategy and banking technology.
Prof. Dr.
Matthias Haller

Matthias Haller obtained his PhD in Political Economics at
the University of St. Gallen, Switzerland. In 1980 he became professor of risk management
and insurance economics and in 1987 he was appointed Chairman of the Board of the
Institute of Insurance Economics (I.VW), where he introduced the International Management
Courses for Insurance Top Executives (IMEA). In 1989, he founded the Risk-Dialogue
Foundation, dealing with risk problems in the industrialised society and seeking to
improve dialogue in society and among industry and insurers. Since the '80s, his research
focuses on strategic aspects in insurance and financial services and new perceptions of
risk. In the late '90s, initiation of focus projects on Integrated Risk Management (I.VW)
and of the Gen Dialogue (Risk Dialogue Foundation). He is an inductee to the European Risk
Management Hall of Fame. He has publications in the field of financial services,
integrated risk management, shifts in economic and social risks and risk perception. |

Dr. Peter Maas

Peter
Maas is currently a member of the Executive Board of the Institute
of Insurance Economics at the University of St. Gallen and senior
lecturer in business administration and service management, risk
management and insurance. He also is an Academic Director in
numerous top management seminars on an international level. His
research activities focus on strategy and transformation in the
financial services industries as well as on integrated service
management. He graduated and received his PhD from the University of
Cologne. Beside this he is the author and editor of numerous books
in the areas of behavioural finance, financial services strategies
and integrated service management. |
Prof. Dr. Marcus
Schögel

Prof.
Dr. Marcus Schögel is a fulltime lecturer in marketing at the University
of St. Gallen and head of the Center of Competence for Distribution &
Cooperation at the Research Institute for Marketing and Retailing. He
graduated from Berlin’s Free University in Germany and
holds a PhD in management from University of st. Gallen, Switzerland.
His research focuses on
strategic marketing, distribution and channel management strategies,
strategic networks and alliances in marketing. Marcus has worked
together with companies from different industries (like BMW, Microsoft,
McKinsey, Schwarzkopf & Henkel, Bertelsmann, TUI and Allianz) on issues
relating to strategic marketing, customer care strategies, distribution
and channel management as well as brand management. He has published
numerous articles and books on these topics.

Martin Hilb

Martin
Hilb studied Political Sciences at the University of Geneva and Business Administration at
the University of St. Gallen, where he obtained his PhD. He is Director of the Institute
for Leadership and HRM and professor at the University of St. Gallen, the University of
Dallas/Texas, and the European Institute for Advanced Studies in Management, Brussels. He
is also coordinator of the Doctoral Programme in Multicultural Management at the
University of St. Gallen. Martin Hilbs publications include books and articles in
the field of multicultural management, strategic human resources management, and change
management. |

Prof. Dr.
Benoît Tremblay

Benoît
Tremblay obtained an MBA from HEC Montréal and a Ph.D. in sociology
from the École Pratique des Hautes Études, Paris. He is professor of
management with special consideration to manager’s development in
mastering different roles and organisational process and structure.
One of the founders of the Study Centre for the Management of
Co-operatives in 1975, he is the Director of the Desjardins Centre
for Studies in Management of Financial Services Cooperatives since
2001. Currently, he is leading an initiative to create an
International Observatory on Financial Services Co-operatives which
includes development of databases, a virtual library and strategic
banking simulations. More than twenty large co-operative banks have
already signed an agreement with the Observatory. He has also been
active in public life as a Member of the City of Montreal Council
and a Member of the Executive Committee of the Montreal Urban
Community. Later, he has been elected Member of the Canadian Federal
Parliament and Parliamentary Secretary for Industry, Science and
Technology before coming back to HEC in 1997.

Réal
Jacob is professor of Management and Director of the Office of Knowledge
Transfer and Executive Education at HEC Montréal. As a member of the
Centre for Research on Organizational Transformation at HEC, he served
as Scientific Director of the CEFRIO, a research and transfer centre
created by the governments and large businesses to better understand and
improve organisational capacity to use information technologies. His
main research and teaching interests are organizational transformation,
innovation, network organization, learning organization, knowledge
management and communities of practice. He has published several
articles in various leading journals. In 1999, he received the
prestigious Canadian « Leaders in Management Education Award » granted
by the National Post/PriceWaterHouseCoopers for the quality of his
teaching and his impact on the business world.

Prof. Dr. Jacques Nantel

Jacques
Nantel received a Ph.D. from Indiana University in 1985 and since he
has been active in teaching, research and consulting. His work
focuses on the impact of new technologies on the behaviours of
consumers and on the marketing strategies of organisations. He is
the founder and was the director of the RBC Financial Group Chair of
e-commerce prior to his nomination as Secretary General at HEC
Montréal in April 2007. He is author or co-author of four marketing
textbooks and has published several articles in various leading
journals In 2000, he received the prestigious «Leaders in Management
Education» award and in 2002 the American Marketing Association
(Montréal Chapter) granted him the title of «Personality of the year
». |

Boisvert

Hugues
Boisvert is Chairholder of the CMA International Centre for studies of
business processes at HEC Montréal since May 2000. He is also a
professor of management accounting in the department of Accounting. His
main areas of expertise are benchmarking, activity based costing and
management and business processes reengineering. He obtained his Ph.D.
from Stanford University in California and received in 1997 the title of
fellow (FCMA) from the Society of Management Accounting of Canada. He
has published numerous articles and books and he is since many years an
active lecturer in executive development programs in Canada and abroad.
He was responsible for the initial development of the professional
program of The Society of Management Accountants of Canada. He currently
serves on the board of directors of HEC Montréal. |

Ian
McKillop obtained his PhD at the University of Waterloo, Ontario,
Canada.
His research interest and expertise is situated in
the area of design, implementation and management of advanced
financial information and accounting systems, such as those used in
banking and insurance environments. Because of this expertise he has
been serving the Institute of Candian Bankers (ICB) for many years,
and has been involved in many projects for process improvement for
large financial services corporations in France, Belgium, Sweden,
Denmark, Germany and Switzerland.

Tsé obtained his Masters degree (MSc) in Management Science and his PhD in Financial
Economics at the University of London, UK. Today, he is a professor of finance at Nyenrode
University, the Netherlands, and at the China Europe International Business School (CEIBS)
in Shanghai. In addition, he has been a visiting professor at various universities
and institutions. He has been a consultant to financial institutions in Europe and in the
Far East. His research interests include corporate financial strategies, real operating
option theory, asset pricing, treasury management, and financial sector reform in China.

Anthony Saunders

Anthony Saunders is a professor of finance and Chairman
of the Department of Finance at Stern School of Business, New York University, US. He
received his PhD from the London School of Economics and has taught at NYU since 1978.
Throughout his academic career, his research has been specialised in financial
institutions and international banking. He has served as a visiting professor at top
business schools across the globe to include INSEAD, the Stockholm School of Economics,
and the University of Melbourne. He is editor of the Journal of Banking and Finance and
the Journal of Financial Markets. His research has been published in all major money and
banking journals and he has several leading textbooks in the field of financial
institutions and credit risk management.

Michael
Bozanic is a former faculty member of the Nyenrode Centre for Finance where he is
working on his PhD. He contributes to the contemporary research on financial
intermediaries with specific focus on the relation between financial conglomerates and
value creation from a shareholders perspective. His research contributes to the
theoretical and practical aspects of several courses at Nyenrode University with specific
application to the Management of Financial Institutions course and the Risk Management
course in the MBA-FSI. Furthermore, he contributes to a number of executive courses
offered by the Institute of Canadian Bankers (ICB), Canada.
