The
financial services industry is changing at a relentless pace. What was
the norm yesterday can be old-fashioned tomorrow. New technologies, new
regulations, new entrants, the changing socio-demographic environment,
etc. make this industry increasingly complex compared with a generation
ago. The MBA-FSI
programme was founded in the 1990s, at the time that new financial
groups with substantial banking and insurance activities were emerging.
That new form of competition forced financial institutions to re-assess
their overall business strategies and adapt their internal organisations.
The strength
of this programme lies in the unique combination of a general MBA
content with a focus on the financial services industry. Management
trends in the field of strategy, marketing, finance, technology, etc. are translated and applied to the financial sector by means of
carefully-selected faculty, guest speakers, case-studies, and company
visits.
Recently, we
have seen financial institutions focusing again on their core business,
selling parts of their banking, insurance or investment activities.
Although fully integrated financial services until the customer-end may
not be the prevailing strategy for the main players in the market, many
ingredients (products and services, financial techniques, risk
management, ALM, etc.) continue to be very relevant to each of the
financial services players. Banking, insurance and investment components
will continue to be interwoven, in particular at the back-office and
process-side.
I believe
that the competitive edge of this MBA lies in its holistic view on
financial services and its truly international character as far as
teaching locations, participants, and faculty is concerned.
Participants
have different sectoral and geographical backgrounds and occupy
management positions in different departments. This setting guarantees a
maximal learning experience. Three of the six modules are organised
outside Europe which provides invaluable insights into the challenges of
doing business on a global scale. Over the past editions, this "carroussel-formula",
giving participants the opportunity to study in six different countries,
experience six different cultures and get contributions from numerous
faculty members and business speakers, has proven to be a successful
concept.
I trust you
will find the information you seek on this website, and hope that this
is the start of a long-standing relationship.
